The Heartbeat of Quigley Catholic High School

Edward “Mr. D” Driscoll was, quite simply, Quigley Catholic High School’s favorite son. For decades he poured his time, talent, and heart into the school’s students and athletic programs—quietly doing whatever needed to be done so others could shine. From the sidelines to the ticket gate, from keeping statistics to coordinating game-day details, Mr. D was the steady presence everyone relied on.

When Quigley named its football venue the "Edwin D Driscoll Athletic Field" in his honor, it was an acknowledgement of a lifetime of service that spanned generations of Spartans. True to his humility, he responded with a smile and a line that captured his spirit:

“I was very much surprised. Usually things like this happen when you retire or die—and I’m not ready to do either.”Ed Driscoll

Mr. D’s influence reached far beyond wins and losses. He looked after the small things that make a school feel like home: making sure athletes had what they needed, showing up early and leaving late, and treating every student—star player or first-time participant—with the same care and encouragement. Coaches leaned on his experience; parents trusted his judgment; students felt seen and supported.

His legacy at Quigley is measured in people, not trophies: the thousands of young men and women who learned responsibility, teamwork, and pride in their school because Mr. D modeled those values every day. The stadium that bears his name reminds us that communities are built by servants—those who show up, do the work, and love well.

Thank you, Mr. D. Your example lives on in every Spartan who has ever stepped onto those fields, put on a jersey and competed to the best of their ability.
